Where do we discuss things?
2018-10-07
When I decided to restart my blog I also decided to add comments. Not because I strongly expect anyone will care to comment, but because it seemed like something that would be fun to do (note: my definition of fun is clearly outside the norm). I assuemed that I would be using forum software to accomplish this. I’m not willing to use a third party service like disqus because I want to control my own data.…

Standard Notes
2018-10-05
History tells me that I’m a very finicky note-taker. I’ve purchased and used a large number of note taking systems over the years. Voodoopad , Evernote , Notational Velocity , Simplenote , Bear , Trello and Tiddlywiki are a few of the tools that got more use than others. I really enjoy the wiki style tools where I can link in-between notes. Tiddlywiki would be my favorite if it had a good offline client.…

Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical
2018-10-04
We watched the original propaganda film a couple of weeks back, it was incredible. I can’t actually credit it. One of the guys had a copy of this film and said we really should watch it. It seemed like the kind of thing that we were likely to enjoy, but man I had no idea. The movie adapatation of the musical is really enjoyable. You can tell from moment to moment that everyone in this film had so much fun.…

Movie Night: Deadpool 2
2018-09-27
I think I subconciously had low expectations of this one. I enjoyed the first movie quite a bit, and I think Ryan Renoylds enjoyement of the role and the creative process surrounding it oozes from every pore of both films. He clearly has some amazing writers, as well as an excellent supporting cast, to work with. The jokes were excellent, and I’m really glad they worked a joke about Rob Liefeld in there.…

Planning a new rpg
2018-09-26
Being a GM is great. It’s a massive creative outlet. It gives you something to write about, it gives you an audience for your creations, and collaborators to help you along. If your players keep coming back for more than you’ve probably done something right. Being a GM is a huge amount of work. I’m sure there are people out there who can off-the-cuff most of their stuff, but I know that if I haven’t planned effectively then I won’t do a good job.…

Ever changing
2018-09-23
A long long time ago I thought .plan files were the coolest shit I had ever seen. I knew exactly one person who had any clue what I was talking about, or how to actually access that information. This feels a little like that. I’m pretty sure nobody is aware that I’m doing this, or how to access it. Perhaps I’m wrong about that, but it doesn’t matter. This is for me more than anyone.…

Another way of doing things
2018-02-05
Hexo is a static file content management tool. I’m playing around with it because I’m feeling sick of dealing with sql databases and etc for very little value. Enjoy for the moment, I’m certain I’ll be modifying things over the next couple of weeks.

Keeping busy
2017-08-19
I’ve been doing some work behind the scenes on my site and the site automation. First off, I’m planning on moving from Github to Gitlab . Mostly because Gitlab is totally open source, vs Github which isn’t completely. Second, the Ghost blog software has gone to a major version release and has added some tools that mean I need to pretty much completely rewrite my automation. Since I’m doing all of that I’ve also been working on setting up Amazon S3 as a convenient backup target.…

More harm at a fundamental level
2017-07-12
This hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for the internet as a free and open platform. Nilay is much better at explaining these things than I am.
