I finished HL: Alyx
I finished Half-life: Alyx, a VR game, over the weekend. My mind was blown, it was an amazing experience (steam says I played 11 hours, but I think it was closer to 15). I regret not playing through Episodes 1 and 2 before playing this, I had replayed the original Half-life and Half-life 2. I feel like I would have enjoyed having the knuckles controllers, the game was definitely designed for them.…
VR in Linux working!
This week Valve released the beta for their SteamVR on Linux . It’s not quite ready for general consumption yet, but with a little bit of effort I was able to get it working on my Arch Linux install. At launch there appear to only be two functional applications, Destinations and DOTA2 (spectator) . I’ve tested both, and it’s working well, although it’s definitely a first pass. Performance was passable, but still needs a lot of work.…
Earlier this year is succumb to the pressure of technology and purchased an HTC Vive, fulfilling my childhood dream of being a reckless adult who buys toys. It’s been a thrilling ride. This holiday I spoke to my management about taking a day to bring in and demo room scale VR for some people at work. I was given the green light and I started planning.
